# Job Description Summary

**Role:** The Senior Software Development Engineer is a hands-on developer specializing in Java development, with a particular focus on producing scalable and reliable API services to support business-critical applications and solutions at Mastercard Open Finance.

## What You Will Do

* Excellent problem-solving skills * Strong understanding of data structures & algorithms and their space & time complexities * Excellent hands-on and practical working experience with Java * Excellent coding skills – should be able to convert design into code fluently * Strong technical aptitude and a good knowledge of CS fundamentals * Write modular, extensible, readable, maintainable, and performant code * Focus on code quality, writing unit test cases, and considerations towards choosing the right data structure * Collaborate with teams by contributing to the shared vision and working closely with cross-functional stakeholders * You will be responsible for the APIs you and/or your team build and will support them through to production * Leverage **Generative AI and AI-assisted development tools** to improve software development productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and problem-solving * Effectively use **GitHub Copilot** for code generation, code completion, refactoring, debugging, unit test creation, documentation, and development assistance * Apply **prompt engineering techniques** to effectively interact with AI coding assistants and obtain accurate, maintainable, and context-aware solutions * Review, validate, and optimize AI-generated code to ensure it meets security, performance, scalability, maintainability, and coding standards * Use AI-assisted development responsibly while maintaining appropriate developer ownership, code review, testing, and quality controls * Stay current with emerging **AI/ML, Generative AI, LLM, and AI-powered software engineering practices** and identify opportunities to apply them to engineering workflows

* Excellent communication skills * Problem-solver and solution-seeking approach * Hands-on experience building complex, highly scalable, and high-performing systems * Solid understanding and hands-on experience in Java, J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot, and RESTful web services * Understanding and experience integrating web services * Exposure to Test Driven Development * Experience using **GitHub Copilot or similar AI-powered coding assistants** in day-to-day software development * Working knowledge of **Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI-assisted software development** * Ability to critically evaluate and validate AI-generated code rather than relying on AI output without appropriate testing and review * Awareness of secure and responsible AI development practices * Team player * Agile Scrum experience
